Taking some time away in a travel trailer can be very enjoyable and an affordable way to spend time with the family. With a travel trailer, you can take a few days or even a few weeks out from your normal routine. Travel trailers give you the chance to enjoy both being outdoors while having many of your home comforts. Here are a few tips to get the most out of this unique travel experience.
Put Some Electric Brakes In Your Towing Vehicle
A lot of states have laws that make sure breakaway braking systems are in place for any vehicle pulling a trailer. As we said, this does vary from state-to-state. However, as you travel, you’re likely to be in more than one state. This means that you should be in line with any laws, regardless of where you’re coming from. This will safeguard you and anyone you are traveling with. Hydraulic surge brake systems are fine in some areas but do not comply with laws everywhere. Having an electric turn brake system present in your truck or your car is the best way forward. Pack Your Trailer Carefully
When you are getting things together to leave for your adventure, how you pack should be thought about thoroughly. There is a limited amount of space in a travel trailer and the weight is an aspect that should be considered carefully. Take all of the items that are vital and resist taking anything unnecessary. One of the better ways to do this is to create a camping checklist. Organize any items you need by room or the area of your RV where they will be stored. Put everything together in its relevant section – once you’ve done this, put them in containers so they can be sorted correctly. It also helps to keep items you’re taking near to the floor. This will prevent them from moving about or falling out of cabinets. Having more weight lower to the ground also makes towing easier.
Check Vehicle Camping Policies
Before taking off on your trip, check what the policies are where ever you wish to camp. There are facilities that will only allow one vehicle towing (and one trailer) to each campsite. Others will allow more. If you’re thinking of bringing a motorcycle with you, you don’t want to end up at your campsite, only for vehicles to not be allowed in. You should also think about this if you want to set up a tent at your campsite, which might be necessary if you have a larger family or children. If you are camping somewhere that does allow for more than one vehicle and for pitching tents, you should find out how much extra you’ll have to pay for doing so.
