When it comes to travel, there are a ton of things that you’re going to think about. Sometimes you will find that you just get overwhelmed with all of the planning that you either feel so rushed when it comes to actually getting off on the trip or, you’ll just forget about it all so that you don’t have to deal with the stress. But actually there are a ton of things that you need to do as a pure minimum - and one of the most important areas is your safety. When you’re traveling alone or you’re traveling long-term, you absolutely have to make sure that you’re going to be safe the entire time. And it’s so easy to take this for granted. But let’s take a look at what you can do to stay as safe as possible.

1. Be Vigilant

So the first thing that you need to do, is make sure that you’re being vigilant. Don’t be naive. Don’t leave your bag unattended or open. Don’t wander into the wrong areas. Don’t look too much like a tourist or be an easy target. These are all really simple things that you need to do, but you need to do them. Being vigilant and really hot on your safety is so important. So just do what you need to do to be as self-aware as you can be when you’re traveling.

2. Tell Someone Where You Are

Another thing that can be really helpful for you, is to be in contact with someone at all times. Tell someone where you are so they know that you are safe or that they can check in with you. Because when people are able to check in with you, then they don’t have to worry. This is especially helpful when you travel alone.

3. Rely On The Right Companies

But it’s also going to be good for you to know that you can rely on the right companies for your safety and security. So stick to brand names that you know and love when you’re traveling. Ones that can help you if you were to have an accident in a Lyft for example or just make sure that there’s some familiarity. Because there’s often safety in the familiar.

4. Stay Protected

The next thing that you should be doing is making sure that you are protected when you travel. This is something small, but it can be so important if you need to use it. So think about getting insurance to protect yourself. You may even need to get long-term insurance or insurance for longer trips to help you.

5. Do Things Right

If you want to make sure you’re safe whenever you’re traveling somewhere different, make sure that you’re doing things by the book. Take in the countries culture, stay in safe areas, ask for advice at your hotel or by a local that you feel is trustworthy. Connect with friends of friends when you travel. And just make sure that you’re not making any obviously silly or reckless choices.
