Most of us look forward to taking a well-earned break. If you’ve got a holiday booked, or you’re starting to research options to keep the end of summer blues at bay, the last thing you want is to spend the next few months stressing about your trip. If you’re keen to take the hassle out of travelling with your little ones, here are some tips to help you relax and get into holiday mode.
Shop around for the best deal
For most of us, money can be a source of stress. If you’re planning to go away, you don’t want to be paying over the odds, or spending hours on the phone or trawling travel agents to find an affordable break. To minimise stress and save you time, make use of the Internet. You can compare options from different tour operators, find cheap flights, and look at prices charged by different sites in a matter of seconds. If you have a specific location or hotel in mind, it’s always worth comparing the price of packages, separate flights and accommodations. Sometimes, bundles work out cheaper, as they include baggage and transfers.
Plan in advance
Although it can be very exciting to take a spontaneous trip, this isn’t always the most fun option when you have children. It’s best to give yourself time to plan, so that you can sort out taking time off work, finding somebody to look after your pets, and pack without rushing around like a headless chicken. The more you can plan before you go, the sooner you can relax and chill out, so organise transfers to the airport, book seats, and look into car hire options. If you want to take trips or go on excursions, do some reading beforehand, look at reviews, and consider booking online to take advantage of lower prices.
Embrace the art of making lists
You may not be one of those people who keeps their diary with them at all times or plans the month ahead using a spreadsheet, but it can be really useful to embrace the art of list-making as you count down to your break. Write down everything that needs doing before you travel, and tick off jobs one by one. This will prevent any last-minute panics, and give you time to ensure you’re completely ready for your getaway.
Entertainment
Most parents will be familiar with those dreaded words, ‘I’m bored.’ When you’ve got a long journey ahead, it’s always wise to think about how you’re going to keep the kids entertained. Download TV programmes or films onto your phone or tablet, invest in some child-friendly audiobooks and take books and magazines to read on the way.
Are you planning a family trip? When you have kids, it’s not always easy to get organised, and travelling can be stressful. Nobody wants to start their holiday feeling stressed and frazzled, so why not try these handy tips? Plan in advance, use the Internet to save you time and money, write lists, and make sure you’ve got entertainment sorted before you jet off.
