Travelling the world is a beautiful thing. It gives you a great chance to spend time meeting different people, exploring new locations and experiencing different countries. It’s your chance to see more of the world, to have some fun, to leave your real life behind and to get rid of some stress. Seeing more of the world can change you as a person - giving you fresh perspective and teaching you more about yourself and the world around you. But, staycations are becoming much more popular.
More people than ever are choosing to explore their home countries. Visiting childhood holiday spots, seeing new places and spending time finding out more about their own culture and heritage. Have you ever considered getting in the car and driving around your own country instead of just using your car to get from point A to B? Here are some reasons to take a long road trip around your home country.
It’s a Cheap Way to See it
Travelling is expensive. Public transport costs are rising all of the time and flying or taking long train journeys often comes with other related costs. Driving, despite the rising cost of fuel, can be much cheaper. Instead of spending a fortune on package holidays aboard, why not just pile into your car with a tent and some supplies, or with some prepared hostel bookings and see your home country?
You Can Pack More
Whether you go abroad or staycation, if you are travelling by plane or train, there are packing limitations. On a flight, you are limited by weight allowances, but even on a train, you’ve got to carry your baggage and find somewhere to store it.
When you drive, you can pack as much as you can fit into your car. If you need more space, you can always add a roof box. This means you can take all the clothes, bags, supplies, safety essentials and entertainment that you want for your trip without having to make any sacrifices. If you have a hobby like fishing or surfing, you can even pack your gear without having to pay extra.
You’ll Be Safe
Having your own car means that you can travel in safety and comfort. You can pack a basic first aid kit and a set of tools - take a brake fluid tester and your car manual - pack essential supplies like blankets and flashlights. Wherever you travel in your car, you’ve got a safe base to go back to.
There’s More Out There Than You Realise
When we go abroad, we spend time exploring. We hit the tourist spots, we travel around, and we see as much as we can in a short time. We don’t do this at home. We go where we need to and rarely see anything else. Your home country probably has a lot more to offer than you know. The road is the best way to see it all. You’ll see all of the small, local attractions that tourists often miss, and you’ll learn a lot more about your surroundings.
