If you are like me, then you will no doubt be highly excited by being able to try loads of different new foods and ingredients when you are traveling. As each country has its very own local specialities and delicacies, I’m sure there will be plenty for you to try no matter where you head to. But every destination has its number-one dish that has to be tried when you’re in town.
Heading off on an exciting trip soon? Here are a few of the best things to eat in some of the most popular travel destinations around the world.
Canada - Poutine
Poutine is a dish that is extremely popular in the Quebec region of Canada, but you will be able to find it no matter where you are in the country. It’s a very hearty meal that consists of French fries and cheese curds covered in plenty of gravy. Before you jet off to Canada, you might want to watch this Kicking Horse Coffee Grizzly Claw review as it’s the best drink to wash your poutine down with. Canada is really into its coffee and this one has a really good reputation with drinkers.
Austria - Wiener Schnitzel
You might think that Schnitzels are traditionally German, and it’s true that the Germans do love their Schnitzels, but they actually originate from Austria. To be precise, they come from Vienna. The veal cutlet is covered in breadcrumbs and then deep fried - usually served with fries or potatoes. You will sometimes find schnitzels with different sauces on the menu in restaurants, but the authentic one is without any sauce!
United Kingdom - Full English Breakfast
The United Kingdom is known for many great meals, including Sunday roast dinners and Yorkshire puddings, but by far the best dish has to be the full English breakfast. You will find this served in most pubs and cafes, and usually consists of eggs, bacon, sausages as well as a selection of a few other items, such as black pudding, hash browns, beans, and tomatoes. You will also find variants when traveling to the different countries in the UK - for instance, in Scotland, you will be served potato cakes with your breakfast.
India - Tandoori Chicken
India is known for its fantastic curries, but there is nothing quite like its tandoori chicken dish. The main spice in this dish is tandoori masala. Once the chicken has been well-coated and left to marinate overnight, it is then cooked in a tandoor oven. You will usually be served this with vegetables, rice, and yogurt.
Japan - Sushi
Is there anything more iconic in Japan than sushi? I’m struggling to think of anything! Don’t worry if you don’t fancy chowing down on some raw fish - there are a lot of vegetable sushi options that you can choose from instead! Be sure to wash yours down with plenty of sake, the country’s national drink.
So much to see and so much tasty food to try! Which delicious country will you travel to next?
