Travel can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. In fact, there are plenty of ingenious methods for keeping the cost of a holiday break, down. With that in mind, if you are looking to see the world without emptying out your bank account read on for some useful advice.

Accommodations

One of the areas in which you can make the most significant savings is with travelling accommodations. The reason such huge savings are available is that so many people are only looking for luxury, all-inclusive type breaks. Luckily, this is excellent news for anyone that isn't because other types of accommodations are readily available at a lower price.

In particular, if you are going on a large family holiday or with an extensive group, it can be much more cost effective to rent out a property like the ones Elite Holiday Homes have available for the duration of your trip. Also, in many cities across the world, there are a whole network of hostels that provide cheap, clean accommodations and these can even be suitable for couples because many offer private rooms for a small price increase.

Flights

Apart from accommodations, the next most substantial cost when travelling is often the flights that will get you to and from your destination. Happily, if you are smart with your booking strategy, you can travel for a lot less than you would expect - flights can be a great place to save.

One strategy is to book your flights once released as they are often cheapest at that point. Also, don't forget that there are apps now that track the cost of flights over time and remind you to book when the price is as low as possible, something that can save you a small fortune for your travels.

Insurance

Travel insurance isn't usually too expensive unless you have a particular medical condition that needs covering while you are away. However, it would be remiss to spend more than you need to here, especially if money is tight.

It is worth looking into the round trip and multi-destination insurances that are available, as these can work out much cheaper if you are planning an extended stay.

Clothes

So many people make the mistake of buying and packing too many clothes when they travel. Sadly this costs them twice over as they pay out for stuff they don't wear - often having to pay extra for heavy luggage to be transported on their flight.

Happily, there is a simple way to prevent this double cost - buying a minimum amount of clothing items. Pick things in natural fabrics that are breathable, can be worn in layers, and then you will have attire suitable for whatever climate you find yourself in. You can even top off your wardrobe in individual locations if you feel the need. A strategy that means you will be able to save a considerable amount of money before you have even left, ensuring that you have enough for all the experiences you want to have as you travel the world.
